Principal Report
Dear Parents and Carers,
We all know how important a good night sleep is for feeling refreshed and ready for the day ahead. But did you know that sleep is one of the most critical factors in your child's learning, memory and overall growth? Research shows that children who get the recommended amount of sleep each night are more focused, better able to retain information and emotionally regulated throughout the school day.
For primary age children, the National Sleep Foundation recommends 9 to 11 hours of sleep per night. Sleep plays a vital role in brain development, allowing children to consolidate their learning, process emotions, and build strong immune systems. Lack of sleep can lead to difficulties with concentration, problem solving and emotional resilience, which can affect both academic and social success.
As we move into the second half of the year, we encourage all families to continue to establish and maintain a bedtime routine for learning. Here are some helpful tips to promote the quality of sleep:
- Set a consistent bedtime and wake up time even on weekends.
- Reduce screen time at least an hour before bedtime.
- Encourage quiet, calming activities before bed, such as reading or listening to soft music.
- Ensure your child's sleeping environment is cool, dark and comfortable.
By prioritising sleep, we can help our children be their best selves at school - ready to engage, learn and grow.
The Growing Up Program (k-6)
We are excited to inform you about an important program happening soon at our school: The Growing Up Program. This program is designed to support students from kindergarten to year 6 in understanding the physical, emotional, and social changes that occur during their stages of development.
The Growing Up Program is delivered in a safe, age appropriate and respectful way, helping students build knowledge and confidence about their own development. It provides them with essential information to navigate the changes they experience as they grow. Topics covered will include understanding bodily changes, personal safety, and emotional wellbeing.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher or to our administration team.
We appreciate your support in ensuring all students have the tools and knowledge they need to grow into confident, informed individuals.
Kind regards
Deirdre Arendt

Athletics Carnival
On 3 and 4 March Rosetta held its annual Athletics Carnivals for Years 3-6. It was a great 2 days with fierce competition for house points. Nile eventually came out victorious with 772 points, Mace was second on 736 points with Rashid a close third on 714 points. From this carnival, our Interschool Athletics Team was selected to represent Rosetta Primary School on Friday, 28 March.

The Kinder to Grade 2 Carnival will again be held in Term 4 this year.

E Team

The E team would like to thank everyone who participated in the Clean Up Australia collection on Friday 28 February. We were pleased to note that most areas of our school grounds were litter-free but were able to identify a couple of hotspots to target.
We are also encouraging students to bring a litter-free lunch using no plastics and packaging and we will have a dedicated day in the coming weeks.
Thank you to the many students and families who are already reducing lunchbox plastics and packaging.
Our fun fact this week is:
A waste-free lunch is a lunch that does not produce any trash or packaging waste. It can be achieved by using reusable containers and utensils, planning ahead to avoid food waste, purchasing snacks with no or minimal packaging. A waste-free lunch can benefit the environment and promote healthy eating.

News from 2A
Grade 2A is alive with classroom pets this year. As well as our goldfish Storm, Dotty and Goldie, we have an adult spiky leafed stick insect named Kenji and a collection of young stick insects. The class have particularly enjoyed watching Kenji beginning to lay eggs and the young stick insects shedding their skins as they grow. It is great to watch a life cycle in action in the classroom.
The texts which we have been studying are Iggy Peck Architect and Rosie Revere Engineer by Andrea Beaty. These books are inspirational texts about Grade 2 students with creative talents, who display perseverance and ingenuity – skills we appreciate here at Rosetta Primary. On a lighter, more humorous note we have been delighted by the silly but relatable exploits of Terry and Andy in The13th Storey Treehouse.
Studying the stick insects and The 13th Storey Treehouse has generated some impressive artwork for our classroom– ink and dye paintings and collage.
Grade 2 Maths is proving to be enjoyable with our daily game of Find the Mystery Number on the 100 Chart, with our best attempt being 4 tries.
We have also been learning about numbers up to 1000, strategies for working with addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and problem solving.
It’s been a busy and enjoyable start for Grade 2A, truly indicative of the potentially productive and enjoyable year to come.
