Principal Report
Dear Parents and Carers,
Shaded Basketball Court Update
We are eagerly awaiting an update from Kings regarding the installation of the shade structure for our basketball court. This is the next major step in the project followed by the Installation of the basketball poles. Once the shade structure is in place, the final step will be laying the rubberized surface, and installing the basketball hoops, marking the completion of the court. We anticipate these steps will be completed within the next four to six weeks.
Additionally, as part of this project, we are excited to update the mural in the hall. We are working with an artist who has won the submission, and they will be presenting their ideas in an upcoming meeting. We look forward to seeing how the new mural will enhance our school environment.
Athletics Carnival
Next week, students in grades 3-6 will participate in our annual Rosetta Primary School Athletics Carnival. We encourage all students and parents to show their team spirit by dressing in their house colours.
This year, we are introducing a new House Spirit Award, which will be awarded to the house that collects the most raffle tickets each term. Students can earn these raffle tickets by demonstrating a great sportsmanship, effort and school community actions. They are linked to the values of growth, respect, responsibility, courage and connection. The house colour is nominated on each ticket. Mr Johnstone and the house captains will be keeping track of the tally, which will be shared at each assembly. At the end of each term, the house with the most house spirit raffle tickets, will receive a special sporting event. Good luck to Mace, Rashid, and Nile.
NAPLAN
NAPLAN testing is approaching for students in grades three and five, commencing in the week of March 10. This assessment provides valuable insights into student learning in reading, spelling, writing, language conventions, and maths, at this point in the school year. We appreciate the support from families and staff in making this a valuable experience for our students.

Seesaw Update

The Seesaw app is still currently disconnected for all families while DECYP and Seesaw undertake work to fix errors. As soon as we are able to reconnect families to the app, we will send notices home. We will also post updates on our school Facebook page, so please make sure you are following that.
Thank you for your understanding while this issue is being resolved.

You can apply for STAS online here: Financial assistance for school costs - Department for Education, Children and Young People
Prep Science Adventures
This term in Prep A Dillon, we have been busy exploring the world of living things as part of our science unit. We have been learning all about the properties of plants and animals, and what makes them so important. Over the past two weeks, we have focused on the importance of plants and bees, discovering how they work together to help our environment.
As part of our Talk, Draw, Write lessons, we’ve shared our ideas about why plants are important and how bees help flowers and food produce grow. We got creative, making our own buzzing bees and decorating pots with bright colours to plant our very own bean seeds. We are now eagerly waiting and watching to see how they sprout and grow.
It has been so exciting to see our little scientists engaged in hands-on learning, and we can’t wait to continue exploring the wonders of nature throughout the term.

Canteen
A reminder that our canteen is not operating in Term 1. We are hoping to find a suitable team to take this service on later in the year and will keep families updated if/when this changes.
ETeam/Clean Up Australia Day
The E Team would like to remind everyone that this Friday 28 February is National Clean Up Australia Day.
Rosetta Primary will be participating again this year with our annual clean-up of the school environment.
Classes will be provided with some shared equipment, and students are invited to bring their own gloves and/or tongs if they wish.
Classes will also be discussing the purpose of Clean Up Australia Day, and the E Team will be investigating further ways we can reduce the amount of waste the school produces.
Currently we have a number of initiatives, food composting, paper recycling, pen and pencil etc recycling, oral care product recycling, battery recycling and mobile phone recycling but we hope to add to this list during the year.

EOI Basketball Championships
Basketball Tasmania is once again holding its Regional Primary School Championships for schools, to be held on Saturday 29 & Sunday 30 March for Grade 5/6 girls and boys and Saturday 5 & Sunday 6 April, for Grade 3/4 boys and girls. Games are held at various locations which may include Kingborough Sports Centre, Clarence and Swisherr (Hobart CBD).
There is a cost to enter the teams and a referee is required to be supplied by each team as well.
Team registration cost of $275 to be split among players and all players will need to be registered with Basketball Tasmania ($10 fee applies). If teams are unable to supply their own referee; additional costs may be required for this. This year we intend to run a fundraiser to help reduce some of these costs.
Teams must be entered by Sunday 2 March (5/6 roster) and Sunday 9 March (3/4 roster). Please return this form if your child can participate and please indicate if you are able to help with coaching, Team Manager or referee.
Players are required to have played basketball before or have a good understanding of the rules of basketball. The division/grade that the team will be entered into will be determined by Basketball Tasmania’s By-laws and the experience levels of players entering.
If you would like to your child to participate in the competition or are able to assist with one of the roles, then please complete and return the form sent home on Wednesday 26 February, to Mr Johnstone or the office by Friday 28 February.
Please note parents who would like to assist must have a current Working with Vulnerable People card.

Mathletics

Mathletics is the world’s leading online maths program designed for use at school and at home. Mathletics is aligned directly to the Australian curriculum. Learning tasks are assigned by classroom teachers to compliment and extend the work students do in class. Mathletics allows teachers to gain deep insights through data-driven reports into how learners are progressing. These reports can be used to find where students are excelling, where they’re being challenged, and how to shape future teaching. At Rosetta Primary School we have subscriptions for students from year 1 through to year 6. We strongly encourage the use of Mathematics at home to progress your child’s learning. Studies show that best gains are made when Mathletics is used a minimum of three days a week. All students in grades 1-6 have a username and password. If your child needs a reminder of their log in details, please contact your child’s teacher.
