Principal’s Report
The end of the year is approaching and with it a period of reflection.
It’s a time to say that we could not do all of our work within the school without our parent community and volunteers and so thank you all for your support over the year.
A huge thank you to parents who go on excursions and to all the volunteers who coordinate the Fundraising committee, the sports teams, and the canteen.
A special note of appreciation is extended to Bec Blackwell who over the last couple of years has run a highly successful Gold Accredited Canteen and was acknowledged recently for her work with a Smart Food Award. On behalf of the Rosetta Primary community, I would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Bec and her wonderful canteen team for their outstanding efforts in running the canteen so successfully. As this marks Bec’s final year with us, I would like to express my deepest gratitude for her contribution over the years. We will greatly miss Bec and her team and I would like to wish them all the very best for the future.

I would also like to thank the Rosetta Primary School Association, who have continued their support of our school and supported a number of events which include BBQs at school events like Rosetta’s World of Learning, a school disco and the Growing Up Program.
I would like to also take this opportunity to thank Mrs Fiona Hancock for her dedication and contributions to our school community over the years. Through her role in the School Association and tireless efforts in organising and supporting our school basketball teams, she has made a lasting impact on both our students and our school spirit. As this marks her final year in these roles we say farewell with deep gratitude for all she has done to enrich Rosetta Primary School and I would like to, on behalf of everyone, thank her for all that she has done.
Kind regards
Deirdre Arendt
Principal

Art Update
This term in the Arts Program, the Prep and Prep/1 classes have been exploring the links between sound and colour with our focus on the famous abstract artist Kandinsky. We have explored using different materials while listening to various styles of music and noticing how this changes our mood and methods of making. We’ve had lots of fun exploring materials and learning how to positively critique each other’s work. These are just a few examples of the beautiful circles created in soft pastels by Prep A Scotney.

In the middle years, the Grade 3’s and 4’s have been focusing on sculpture and exploring the art of visual storytelling across continents and cultures. As part of this project students have created a story forest, where each student contributed their own narrative tree telling a story about their own identity and place in their community and family.
It has been a fantastic year in the Arts program with students participating in many community projects and initiatives. Thanks so much to families for continuing to support our budding young artists at home and providing such enthusiastic voices to the Rosetta creative community.

Music Update
In music, Grades 5 and 6 have been focusing on the Creating and Making strand. Students communicate ideas, perspectives and meaning through composition and performance of music. Recently, singer/songwriter Daniel J Townsend visited Rosetta Primary to work with some of our year 5 and year 6 students on writing songs. The ideas that the students put forward were imaginative and insightful. You can listen to Daniel singing their songs on YouTube. Daniel also visited 3A to share stories and songs. Students had a lot in common, especially their love of music. Our 5-6 classes have also been working on writing parodies. We have had a fun few lessons sharing these songs. Students made a special effort in their performance, dressing up as Donald Trump and Kamala Harris for their political parody of Old Town Road.

Swimming Championships Carnival
On Tuesday 26 November Rosetta Primary had 24 students represent our school at the Swimming Champions Carnival.
This is the most number of students attending the Champions Carnival in the last 6 years and all students should be incredibly proud to have been selected for this event.
Students did an outstanding job throughout the day, swimming to the best of their abilities. Students had to compete in heats and finish in the top 8 fastest times to make a final for their swimming event.
Rory C, Toby S and Tom H all made finals in respective strokes and our relay teams (Grade 3 freestyle, Grade 4 girls medley and Grade 5 girls Medley and Freestyle teams) all competed in finals as well.
All students should be congratulated for the efforts and behaviour on the day. Rosetta is proud!

End Of Year Swim Fun Day Grades 3 – 6
On Thursday 19 December, the last day of the school year, all grade 3 to 6 students with excursion permissions will be attending the Primary End of Year Excursion to the Clarence Aquatic Centre. Students will leave school at 11:10am for an 11:30am till 1:30pm session at the pool. Students will return to school by 2:30pm.
As previously, there will be a designated and roped off area at the shallow end for those less confident in the water and more confident swimmers will be identified with a test swim and coloured wristband or stamp.
Students will be allowed access to the pool kiosk, but all money will be the responsibility of the students themselves. A clearly named wallet or ziplock bag is advised.
Students are reminded that they will need to wear full school uniform on the day and to bring their swimming gear separately.

E-Team

With the warmer weather lately, the E Team have been just weeding and watering our gardens.
We now have 2 hoses which makes our watering much easier but many of the students still love to use the watering cans.
As is usual with gardens our weeds are growing faster than our plants!
Our fun fact this week is
The objective when watering is to get the right level of water to our plants, but all too often we spread an awful lot of water between our plants. To ensure your watering has maximum impact, make sure water is falling where the roots are. With most plants, the largest concentration of roots that are seeking water will be around what’s called the drip-zone.
