Student Parliament Report
Hello Rosetta Students and Families,
Rosetta Primary School finished Term 2 by holding a successful fundraiser to support The Down Syndrome organisation of Tasmania.
Students were enthusiastic about raising funds to support the organisation after listening to a speech from Rory, one of the Grade 6 students. He spoke to the Student Parliament, staff, and others about helping people with Down Syndrome take part in various group and social activities. He especially named supporting younger people who wanted to attend a camp.
Students focused their energy on having a Free Dress and Pyjama Day Event. Wesley, the Treasurer for the Student Parliament has recently announced the amount raised as being $440.90. This event was well received and supported by everyone. The Student Parliament members are now looking forward to reaching out and presenting the fundraising money to a Down Syndrome TAS representative.
Thanks to everyone who joined this fundraiser.

Staff Updates
Dear Parents and Carers,
We have recently had some staff changes within our office space.
Our acting school business manager, Mrs Deb Chick has retired. Mrs Chick worked at Rosetta PS for over 20 years and during that time began as a teacher assistant and later transitioned to the administration clerk’s role. By 2021, she began acting in the school business manager role for one day per fortnight, and then won the acting school business manager position: - a testament to her growing expertise and leadership.
Mrs Chick had a range of successes throughout her time with us, ranging from working with students and supporting their gain in learning, to solving difficult issues in the school facilities as she has dealt with leaks that have gone across the oval, and electrical lighting that has gone on and off repeatedly in the kindergarten, just to name a few. Mrs Chick also managed and coordinated the updated three classrooms which look fabulous. Her tenacity, her thinking outside the square, and her ongoing perseverance have been greatly appreciated by all.
On behalf of everyone in our community, I would like to thank Mrs Chick for her years of service, her unwavering dedication, and her heartfelt commitment to education at Rosetta PS. We would like to wish Mrs Chick a retirement filled with joy and relaxation.
Mrs Deb Henderson was Rosetta PS’s acting School Business Manager on Wednesdays, and she has now resumed her usual duties. On behalf of all in our community, I would like to also thank Mrs Henderson for her support and thoughtfulness within the school business manager role. Mrs Henderson’s constant commitment was always doing extra to ensure all families, students and staff had timely support when needed. One of her many notable achievements was applying for and coordinating the grant which saw Friendship Grove come into fruition, this has certainly been an enhancement to our school grounds. Mrs Henderson was able to provide creative and thoughtful ideas to ensuring presented events had smooth outcomes.
Thank you, Mrs Henderson, for your many contributions which helped our school be a welcoming space.
I would like to now welcome and congratulate Ms Jodi Cleaves who has won the full-time permanent position as Rosetta Primary School Business Manager. She has already commenced in her position, and we greatly look forward to her working within and getting to know our community as time goes on. Many congratulations Ms Cleaves.

Introducing the new School Business Manager
Hi everyone,
My name is Jodi Cleaves and I am excited to be the new School Business Manager here at Rosetta Primary School. The staff and students have been so welcoming and supportive during my first week here, and I have already seen some of the exciting projects happening around the school.
I look forward to getting to know and being a part of the Rosetta Primary community!

The Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey
This survey for Grade 4-6 students begins on Monday 26 August and concludes on Friday 20 September 2024.
All students in Government Schools in Years 4 -12 complete the survey annually. This is a valuable survey as it allows schools to receive data on student wellbeing and examine student activities, interests and thoughts about learning and participation, being healthy, sense of culture and identity and material basics like breakfast and obtaining enough sleep. The Wellbeing Domain of loved, safe and valued is also examined and data responses can assist us at Rosetta Primary to ensure that all students are supported and treated fairly and with respect.
Data collected is anonymous and is only used to help our school with future planning and activities to ensure engagement with school actions are responsive to student needs.
Attached to this week’s newsletter is a Parents and Carers Fact Sheet and a letter from the Principal. Students in Grade 4 will also be receiving a copy of the Your Wellbeing booklet. For families with any questions please contact Mrs Lenthall for assistance - Phone 62081200.

Swimming and Water Safety Program (SWSP)
Grade 3 to 5 and some Grade 6 students are commencing our annual Swimming and Water Safety Program (SWSP) in week 3 of Term 3 on Monday, 5 August 5 and continuing through until Friday 16 August.
The SWSP will again be held at Collegiate Pool throughout the day and are offering close to an hour of swimming instruction for each group in the pool. Students learn swimming strokes, water safety and water orientation skills to ensure they are comfortable in water environments.
There are 4 groups participating, with the times for classes as follows:
Classes | Depart School | Lesson Start | Depart | Return to School |
3A + 5/6C | 9:15am | 9:45am | 10:45am | 11:15am |
4A + 5/6A | 10:15am | 10:45am | 11:45am | 12:15pm |
5/6D + 3/4 | 11:15am | 11:45am | 12:45am | 1:15pm |
5/6B + 4/5 | 12:15pm | 12:45am | 1:45am | 2:15pm |
This program is well regarded, and students have a great time learning lots of new, safe water skills. It is expected that all students attend the SWSP in Grades 3, 4 and 5. Collegiate pool staff allow parents to come and watch on the second Friday of the program. Any spectators are asked to watch the swimming from the mezzanine area above the pool.
We hope all students enjoy this year’s program.
If you have any questions about the program, you are invited to ring 62081200.
Thanks.

News from 2B
Welcome to the second half of the year! I hope everyone had a lovely break. I was lucky enough to enjoy some of my favourite things; time by the beach, quality time with my two sons and dog and lots of yoga and reading!
We are preparing for another busy term of learning. Last term in English we focused on information texts and writing to inform. We read about the Spotted Handfish for much of our focus and have learnt many interesting facts about this mysterious and precious animal.
Moving into Term 3 we will begin with the Jackie French series looking at natural disasters. We will also be inspired by some famous people from the ‘Little People, Big Dreams’ series. Towards the end of term, we look closely at narrative writing and explore narrative text structure and features.
Last term in Maths we explored measurement and place value. Term 3 will see a Maths focus on time, fractions, multiplication, and division. We will continue to apply our learning to problem solving challenges.
HASS will see us move from Geography in Term 2 to inquiring about changing technologies in Term 3. In Science we will be exploring Earth and Space Sciences.
Thank you to the Rosetta community for making me feel so welcome this year, I have settled in and am really enjoying working with you all. It is great to be part of such a caring and connected community.

E Team
The E team students who attended last week's meeting have planted some sunflower seeds ready for the summer.
All the seeds were collected from the huge sunflowers which were grown and planted last year by Ryan and Lincoln in 4A.
Our fun fact this week is....
The scientific name for sunflower is Helianthus and it is a member of the daisy family.
Sunflowers are colourful and easy to grow because they are heat tolerant and pest resistant.

Smartbots
The Smartbots group meet on Tuesday mornings in Unit B.
This year we have 9 students who show impressive critical thinking, persistence and teamwork in designing, constructing and coding their robots.
They are led each fortnight by Mr Bob Elliot from DECYP’s Gifted and Highly Able Students Online Programs.
