19 June 2024
Hello everyone,
We are the Executive of the new session of the Student Parliament – our names and roles are Rory (Secretary), Maika (Prime Minister), Wesley (Treasurer), Mateo (Deputy Prime Minister) and Isidora (Speaker).
We will be providing an Assembly update each time we meet.
We have some updates about the management of the Student Parliament that we would like to share.
The first thing to report is that Ms Arendt is now the Governor General of our Student Parliament. She will be advising us and guiding us to achieve our goals. She provides us with the permission to make the advancements we want.
The future of our Student Parliament will include student voice and particularly the voice of students in classrooms. We will have more to say about that as we get started.
Our activities and goals were discussed at last Fridays full Student Parliament and where class nominees discussed our fundraising focus and other things we want to support and help our school achieve. One of our goals is to create safety videos that provide students with messages that will help them understand why we do particular things like fire drills and lockdowns. Many students spoke about fundraising choices and why some of our decisions really matter. Our guest speakers last week were Mrs Chick out School Business Manager who talked to us about money and budgets and how to fundraise and manage the money we collect. Rory (5-6 A student) spoke about why we should support the Down Syndrome organisation. Rory’s mum is going to come and talk to us about Down Syndrome. In the future we will have other opportunities to hear from other guests.
We have agreed to a Free Dress/Pyjama day event on Thursday 4 July (The last week of Term 2) with all monies donated to the Down Syndrome Organization. We will also be providing support to the Dogs Home by collecting food or other items – there will be an ongoing collection bin available outside the learning centre for students wishing to support dogs.

Grade 5 and 6 Band
Our assemblies are highlights of our school and this week we had the guest appearance of Mr Simon Reade and Mrs Claire Reade as they led the Grade 5 band and Grade 6 band in an assembly performance. And what a phenomenal performance it was with the students demonstrating what they have learned under Mr Reade’s tutelage.
Thank you to both Mr and Mrs Reade for their time and care in helping our students perform. We are looking forward to the two bands performances at the end of the year at the MyState Arena.

E Team
The E Team are busy finalising their plans for the Bush Tucker Garden area and next week will meet with Mr Clarke to discuss where we will begin. Also, we would like to remind everyone about our message in Assembly this week: Every person can make a difference in the world by reducing, reusing and recycling.
Below are some easy ideas you could try.
Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle are important concepts for kids to learn about environmental conservation:
- Reduce: Use both sides of paper, avoid single-use plastic bottles and bags.
- Reuse: Reuse items as much as possible before replacing them.
- Recycle: Purchase products in recyclable packaging and avoid single-serve containers.

TSC Tournament
Dylan participated in the Tasmanian Submission Championship for MMA (mixed martial arts) held at Clarence a few weeks ago. He achieved second place in the Championships, and this was acknowledged by receiving the medal he is wearing in the photo.
Dylan attends training every Tuesday and Thursday and is committed to his sport of choice.
Well, done Dylan on your achievement and challenging others across different age groups and succeeding across three minutes or for achieving points in the three minute rounds including mixed martial arts.
Premiers Reading Challenge
This week begins the Reading Challenge for all students: Kinder – Grade 6 and concludes on the 23 August 2024.
This year, for the first time the Premier’s Reading Challenge has welcomed Kinder classes to join.
This year for the first time we will also have one classroom nominated PRC Champion from Grade 3- 6 who will receive a badge and undertake the duties of supporting their class to complete the challenge.
For families wishing to support their children at home then SORA, Get Epic and or magazines etc. can also be used for recording purposes. Also visit your local Library or the School Library for additional reading material.
As always, we are hoping for a 100 % participation rate.
There will be some book prizes for the first six completed Log books to be placed in the box in the Library and then following that there will be some random Log book selections each week.
The aim is for every child at Rosetta Primary to complete the 10 books read in 10 weeks reading challenge – note: if Log books are completed before that time, then that is acceptable.
When completed students will receive a certificate from the school and be acknowledged in the newsletter- then sometime in Term 3 students will receive a certificate from the Premier of Tasmania.

Parent Teacher Conversations
Bookings for Parent/Teacher conversation appointments for 2024 are currently open.
We would like to continue our goal of meeting with every parent during the Parent/Teacher week. It is an important time to celebrate your child’s achievements so far this year and to hear about areas for improving. It is also a time for you to share important information and to ask questions on areas of learning which you might have. We are using Session Keeper which is part of the Schoolzine package. You will be able to click on the Book Your Appointment Now button and you will see all the class teacher names so you can book your times. You can book an appointment on any device. If you have any questions about the appointment system with Session Keeper please call the school office on 6208 1200.
