Principals Report
Hello everybody,
Congratulations Scarlett
At the last assembly, we congratulated the place-getters in the Lion’s Club Peace Poster Competition. This week we can proudly announce that the winner of the local competition, Scarlett, has also won the Tasmanian section and currently, her work is winging its way to Sydney to be part of the National Competition. Congratulations again Scarlett.
Exiting our Turning Circle
It is always timely to refresh memories about our car park and turning circle which has two peak times during the day. It is during those times we request all drivers to be aware of and attend to the road rules of the area and remember the speed limit in the car park is 5km for the safety of all.
When exiting the school, the arrows indicate which way to turn and must be adhered to for the safety of all in our community. This is with particular reference to the exit which has no right turn.
This road rule ensures that our families and visitors who are leaving the school do not turn onto the children’s crossing where families and students are crossing. It is an important safety rule for all of our drivers to remember the arrow and comply with the road rule.
Many of our families put on their left-hand indicator at this point to turn left – this attention to the road rule is greatly appreciated.
Band and Choir
Good luck to all of our students attending the DEC performance on Friday, both the choir and the band have been practising and are ready to perform. It will be a wonderful showcase night for all involved.
Kind regards
Deirdre

Basketball
The 5-6 boys team consisted of Thomas, Felix, Joel, Levi, Levi, Lucas, Aiden, Mitchell & Sam. The boys had a wonderful weekend and worked so well together.
The boys had 2 games on the Saturday, winning both these games, making it into the semifinal on the Sunday. The semifinal saw the boys play St Virgil’s, this was a tough game, and the boys didn’t get up to win, they then played off for 3rd spot. They ended up finishing fourth out of a pool of 14 teams, so a tremendous effort by all.
Special thanks to Daniel Willing & Heidi Hancock for coaching the team, thanks to Jason Featherstone for umpiring on Saturday and cheering the boys on Sunday. Huge thank you to Fiona Hancock for organising both the 3-4 team & 5-6 team, without her they would not have played.
Amanda Bostock Team Manager
Over the weekend of the November 11 and 12 the grade 3-4 basketball team competed in the Southern Regional Basketball Tournament. The team showcased talent way beyond their C division placement and came away winning 4 out of 4 for the weekend.
The team consisting of Esther, Will, Tom, Mason, Jordan, Joaquin & Toby, played with great sportsmanship and selflessness. It was a pleasure to watch them play as a team, having fun and enjoying spending the weekend competing with their mates. Also, a special mention to Riley Jones who unfortunately got injured and was unable to play, but still came along to training to help his team!
A huge thank you to Fiona Hancock for organising, Heidi Hancock and Jason Shelton for coaching, David Sheppard and Hallie for putting their hand up to ref for the team and to all the parents for giving up their weekend to support the team.
Ash Bowerman Team Manager
Student Fare Increase
The full student fare will increase by 10 cents on 1 January 2024. If you use cash for a single trip ticket, the new fare will be $2.00. If you use a smartcard or purchase a 10-trip ticket, the new fare will be $1.60. Smartcards like Greencard and Transportme can be topped up online. You can buy a 10-trip ticket for $16.00 from the bus driver. It costs the same on every trip – it doesn’t matter how far, where, or when you go. Bus routes that travel only in a rural area, to the local school, don’t charge a fare. Some students can travel or transfer between buses for free. You may be eligible for a Student Bus Pass for Free Travel if you are: • listed on a Health Care or Pensioner Card • travel wholly within the rural area where there is only a fare charging service • must use more than one bus between home and school and/or school and home • are under a Care and Protection Order. The student fare last increased in 2022. This fare increase is set by government policy. For more information talk to your bus driver, visit www.transport.tas.gov.au/student or call 6166 3343 (9am to 5pm weekdays).

Children’s University
Last week our 38 graduating students attended the 2023 Children’s University graduation at Stanley Burbury theatre Sandy Bay. We very proudly saw them march into the theatre to the music of the bagpipes and then walk across the stage to be presented with their certificate(s) for this year.
We would like to acknowledge the fantastic effort put in by all these students and their families who allow them to be involved.
Students have already begun counting their hours towards next year.

E Team
This week we will be encouraging the classes to use the bins around the school to dispose of their papers….we will be giving out certificates to classes who are doing the right thing.
Some of our E Team members will also be talking to classes about using the environment respectfully as they have many ideas to share.
Our fun fact this week is….
Respect for the environment means having a positive attitude towards the natural world and taking steps to protect it. This can involve conserving energy, recycling, choosing environmentally-friendly products, and reducing waste. Respecting the environment is a responsible way to live.
